Saturday the twelfth proved a super day for three club members, Gillian Anderson, Meghan Ballantyne and Kirstyn Beattie, as they all qualified for The Royal Highland Show in June.
Gillian was competing with her horse Congeniality B at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre in the Foxhunter class. After posting a clear in the first round she was early to go in the thirteen horse jump off and with professional riders such as Douglas Duffin coming behind her she had to go for it. They posted a clear with a very fast time and it was good enough to win the class outright. This is the second horse Gillian has qualified for The Highland, her other horse Ballyknock Lad has already qualified for The Amateur Championship Final.
Meghan and Kirstyn had a longer trip for their qualifier to The Cabin Equestrian Centre at Inverurie where they were both contesting the Liz Fox JC class. Out of thirty three starters Meghan and Landlord and Kirstyn and Boo were two of the only five clears. Meghan and Landlord had a very fast and clear jump off to take first place, Kirstyn and Boo had two fences down in the jump off but it was good enough to take fourth and one of the remaining qualifying places. Both girls were delighted with their ponies and also to qualify so early in the season, Meghan has already qualified for the 148cm class at The Highland with Landlord so is looking forward to a busy show.
All three riders train here at West Kype Farm with Andrew Wilson and are regulars at the unaffiliated shows and training sessions run by the club. Both Meghan and Kirstyn are founder members of the Lanarkshire Juniors BS Academy run monthly at West Kype and have benefited greatly from the range of top level instructors that are engaged by the academy.
